Parenting Advice

The young mother posed the question, "When is a child old enough to go to the mall alone?"

My short answer, "Never."

Oh, and a word to the wise - it's safer to leave a two-year-old home alone than it is a sixteen-year-old.

Don't even bother to ask how I came to embrace this as truth. Clearly this isn't my first rodeo.

OMG dude, I am just now reading this post. Yes, I am way behind. Welcome to my world.

Anyway, you are right, which I have since learned. And therefore, neither one of our teenagers is old enough to go to the mall alone. Also, we hire a babysitter for the teenagers while the five-year-old can fend for herself. And even take care of the babysitter's needs, most of the time. Haha.

I just wish I'd read this earlier, say, a year and a half ago when you first wrote it. Next time, just send me an e-mail with your sage advice, m'kay?
